B & I Contractors, a Florida based subcontracting and building services firm, has been recently awarded the HVAC scope of work for the new Academic Building #9 project at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).

The contract was awarded by Manhattan Construction on a competitively bid project which includes the installation of roughly one mile of underground chilled water piping required to tie the new building to the campus Central Energy Plant. Work is scheduled to begin this summer, with expected completion by the end of next year.

This 4-story 116,000 sq. ft. new construction building will be the home for the Water School. The aptly named school is focused on studying and finding solutions to the issues associated with Florida’s waters as well as their impact on the environment and economy. Their research into these problems, including the red tide which recently affected Southwest Florida’s waters, will bring a great benefit to the community.

Established in 1960, B & I has offices located in Fort Myers, Tamarac, Sarasota and Tampa. The employee-owned company specializes in providing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and building maintenance services for commercial, institutional and industrial facilities throughout Florida and beyond. The company is a leader in providing reliable, energy efficient and sustainable solutions for building owners and contractors and has won prestigious awards including Excellence in Construction, Top Specialty Contractor and Best Large Company in Soutwe.
