On June 15, the Orlando Police Department and the city of Orlando will break ground on the new $41.5 million police headquarters downtown.

Orlando Business Journal reports that the new 96,000-sq. ft., three-story facility on the southeast corner of South St. and Orange Blossom Trail is expected to be completed in 2016.

General contractor H.J. High Construction Co. has posted a notice inviting subcontractors interested in bidding on the project to prequalify through a form on its website.

Architects Design Group LLC, based in Winter Park, designed the project.

The new police headquarters will help spur new development along Orange Blossom Trail and also make way for the Orlando Magic’s $200 million downtown entertainment complex, which will be located on the former police department site in downtown Orlando.
