The University of Florida (UF) has opened its first graduate architecture program in southwest Florida with CityLab Sarasota, an extension campus for students working to earn master’s degrees in architecture. Seven students will begin the two-year master’s program this fall, but Peterson hopes as many as 24 students will study in Sarasota within the next few years, the Herald-Tribune reports.

“The building in which CityLab Sarasota is located will also house the nonprofit Center for Architecture — Sarasota, which helped raise money for the building’s restoration,” said local architect and University of Florida architecture professor Guy Peterson. He renovated it, earning an American Institute of Architects award for his work, and worked with UF to bring its first graduate program to the Sarasota area.
