The City of Tampa has appointed Jeffrey McKittrick as its new Director of Housing and Community Development. McKittrick brings extensive experience in local government, having most recently served as the Assistant Director of Housing and Community Development in Pasco County. There, he revitalized the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, led the revision of local housing assistance plans, and managed a department budget that included oversight of $20 million in state and federal funding.

Previously, McKittrick directed redevelopment efforts for the Kingsport, Tennessee Housing and Redevelopment Authority, where he shifted from managing homeless grants to overseeing grant and redevelopment projects.

“Jeff McKittrick is a proven leader who understands the urgency of our housing and affordability challenges,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “With nearly 30 years of experience in local government, I am confident that he will help us advance our vision of providing safe, stable housing for our residents.”

As Director, McKittrick will lead the affordable housing initiatives launched by Mayor Castor’s administration. His work will focus on collaborating with the community, the city’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, and the Community Redevelopment Agency to develop new housing units and ensure residents remain stably housed.

“I’ve been inspired by the transformative work Mayor Castor has done to address Tampa’s housing crisis,” said McKittrick. “I’m excited to join her team and look forward to working with our housing partners to continue tackling this important issue.”

In his previous role in Kingsport, McKittrick streamlined housing application processes for the homeless and successfully led the relocation of over 100 residents from a public housing site slated for demolition. His background also includes a career in law enforcement, where he served as a deputy sheriff and Field Training Officer in Manatee County, FL, and as a School Resource Officer in Sullivan County, TN.

“To meet Tampa’s ambitious housing goals amid the city’s rapid growth, experienced leadership is essential,” said Abbye Feeley, Administrator of Development and Economic Opportunity. “Jeff’s leadership and commitment to community-focused solutions will be invaluable as we work to address the housing needs of our residents.”

A Florida native, McKittrick graduated from King University in Bristol, TN, and earned his Certified Public Manager designation from Florida State University.
