Tallahassee’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) says it has 22 projects in various stages of progress throughout the city, after recently completing 10 additional projects.
“All of our projects are a priority for this board no matter how big or how small. And each project is unique all in its own sense,” Mayor Jon Dailey was quoted as saying by WCTV. “We take each one seriously. They all play a very positive role in the overall master plan of our community.”
One of the major initiatives is the $156 million Cascades Project, currently under construction. Once complete, the mixed use development will include 274 residential units, 24 condominiums, retail, restaurant and office space, and 140 hotel rooms. Commercial developer, North American Properties (NAP), said earlier it would invest $132 million in the project, and a hotel partner will invest $18 million for a total private investment of $150 million.
The first phase including the hotel, parking garage and historical marker is expected to be complete in late 2020.
Nearby, work has also started on the $90 million Washington Square development to build a 267 room Loews Hotel, office space, restaurants and a parking garage. The target for its opening is August of 2020.
The CRA is also moving forward with the Bond Neighborhood First Plan. Funding was approved for the plan last year. Staff is currently working to implement portions of the plan, which include a linear park, residential facade program and community engagement around infrastructure, the TV station reported.
