Company opens in Marshall County, Mississippi to reach new customers and grow market share

ROXUL Inc., the leading manufacturer of stone wool insulation products in North America has started manufacturing at its first U.S. location.

The project was built by Gray Engineering Architecture and Construction, which provided manufacturing plant construction services for this project. “With close to 40 years of international experience, Gray, a nationally ranked engineering, architecture and construction firm, has designed and built over 600 manufacturing facilities across the U.S. totaling more than 68 million s.f.,” the contractor reported on its webpage. “Currently Gray has several large projects, mostly located across the South, that are underway or recently completed including: a Michelin Earthmove tire manufacturing plant in Starr, S.C.; a Caterpillar Inc. manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, N.C.; a Caterpillar Inc. manufacturing facility near Athens, Ga.; a Siemens gas turbine plant in Charlotte, N.C.; a Whirlpool plant in Cleveland, Tenn.; and multiple projects for Austal USA in Mobile, Ala.”

The $160 million plant encompasses 600,000 sq. ft. and is located on a 100 acre site in the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park, approximately 30 miles south of Memphis. ROXUL continues to experience growth throughout North America, and the new facility will ensure it can meet its customers’ growing demands, the company said in a news release. This location will help ROXUL maintain its strong growth in key insulation markets such as residential, commercial building, flat roof, and industrial applications, in the mid and southern USA and Mexico.  ROXUL will employ approximately 150 workers on-site once the plant is fully operational.

The factory location was announced in Sept. 2012 by company and state officials including ROCKWOOL International president and CEO Eelco van Heel of Denmark, ROXUL president Trent Ogilvie of Canada and Mississippi governor Phil Bryant of Mississippi.

The company officially broke ground on May 8, 2013, on the state-of-the art facility.  With more than 750,000 man hours and as many as 500 workers on site in the past few months, this significant project was constructed in just over a year with no lost time accidents.

“This is truly a historic occasion for ROXUL,” said Ogilvie. “When conducting our site selection due diligence, it was clear that the State of Mississippi and Marshall County provided us the optimal location from both a manufacturing and distribution standpoint. The support ROXUL has received from the community and the State has been terrific.  We couldn’t have found a better place to call home.”

The Marshall County facility will be commissioned on June 10th, but an official grand opening will be held at a later date in the fall.

ROXUL currently operates two North American facilities in Canada  in Milton, Ontario and Grand Forks, British Columbia.

ROXUL’s high quality insulation is made from natural stone and contains up to 40 percent recycled material with zero waste to landfill.  ROXUL’s superior insulation saves energy, reduces noise and is fire resistant, the company says. ROXUL is a leading choice for architects, building professionals and homeowners.
