The City of Ocala’s growth management department will host a ‘lunch and learn’ event today, Jun. 8, from noon to 1 p.m., to provide an in-depth look at the brownfields program.

A brownfield site is a property where actual or perceived environmental contamination complicates its expansion or redevelopment. Sites may be contaminated with hazardous substances, petroleum, pesticides, metals and asbestos.

Contractors, property owners, realtors, and the public are invited to learn more about the history of brownfields in Ocala and grant opportunities for site assessment.

This workshop is free and a light lunch will be provided.

For more information visit www.ocalafl.org/brownfields or call (352) 629-8404.

The City of Ocala received $500,000 in assessment funding through the EPA Brownfields Program. Funds are to be used for Phase I and II environmental site assessments, clean-up planning and community outreach activities. The downtown and midtown areas of the city are the focus areas.
