Robert Schiffer has joined Stantec as modeling discipline leader for the transportation group in the south.

Schiffer brings 31 years of experience as a leading transportation planner, Stantec said in a news release. “He is considered a thought leader in the transportation modeling industry, having most recently served as the director of professional services at Citilabs, a worldwide leader in the development of software for transportation planning. Although he will serve the Gulf and Southeast Regions, Schiffer will be located in the firm’s Tallahassee, Florida office.”

Schiffer will focus on expanding Stantec’s travel demand modeling practice throughout the Gulf and Southeast Regions within the U.S, the news release said. His background in developing urban and rural travel demand models, travel demand forecasting for highway and transit, multi-modal long-range transportation planning, and site impact studies will enhance Stantec’s core transportation practice.

Steven Abendschein, principal, transportation planning in Stantec’s New York City office said: “Rob’s reputation and knowledge are notable. He’s a proven leader in the travel demand modeling community – from his experience with major professional services and software firms, to his leadership roles in national organizations like the Transportation Research Board, Institute of Transportation Engineers, and American Planning Association. I’m excited to leverage Rob’s skillset to grow our transportation modeling capabilities in the Southeast.”

Along with professional organization involvement, Schiffer has presented and authored a variety of publications on travel forecasting models and long-range planning development.

Stantec has a large transportation practice in the Gulf and Southeast, totaling nearly 425 staff.
