The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) says it has certified the City of Oldsmar “Florida Green”;

The City of Oldsmar achieved 54 percent of its 324 applicable points, earning Gold-level designation. This score represents the third-highest scoring city in the state. The City of Oldsmar was first certified in 2013.  To date 78 state local governments have participated in the Green Local Government program.

“To be recognized as a Gold Level Green Local Government Standard by the Florida Green Building Coalition is an impressive and significant accomplishment for our city,” Mayor Eric Seidel said in a statement. “This achievement acknowledges the City’s commitment to improving environmental performance and stewardship in Oldsmar. Becoming the third-highest scoring community in the State of Florida is not a surprise, but a reflection of years of dedication in this arena.”

Two decades ago, FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green standards tailored specifically to Florida. Beyond third party certifications, FGBC is also a resource for the municipalities when considering going green.

“The FGBC Green Local Government program is totally unique within the state. It creates an environment of communication and coordination among different departments,” said FGBC executive director C.J. Davila. “This collaboration streamlines processes, decreases redundancies, and generates new approaches toward sustainability and resource preservation.”
