The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) says it has honored the top “Florida Green” certified projects.

“Congratulations to the winners and our members who are dedicated to improving the green built environment, sustainability and promoting its positive environmental, social and economic impact in our state,” FGBC executive director C.J. Davila said in a statement

Lennar Homes – SW of Sarasota was named single-family Builder of the Year with most homes certified with 425.

Southport Development of Tampa was multi-family Builder of the Year with 194 certified homes.

Points are awarded by FGBC for each of the individual green certifying levels – bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Numerical points are given for selecting and integrating individual environmentally friendly green products, best practices, and sustainable techniques from a menu of available green options.

The highest scoring multi-family home was built by Taylor Woodrow Homes, Bradenton, with a Gold level score of 180. Alys Beach Construction from Alys Beach, was the peak single-family home for a Platinum level score of 252.

‘Florida Green” local government honors went to Silver Certified Palm Beach County and Platinum Certified Dunedin in the city category.

Amelia Court, Orlando, achieved a score of 155 in achieving Silver level certification in the extremely competitive High-Rise category.

Downtown Doral Charter Upper School
Downtown Doral Charter Upper School received recognition in the Commercial category

The Downtown Doral Charter Upper School was recognized as Commercial Project of the Year with a Bronze score of 119. Drew Smith of Two Trails, Inc., Parrish, was named Certifying Agent of the Year.

Projects are visited, reviewed, and certified by a third-party green verifier. There have been more than 22,500 certifications since 2000.

Unlike other national and international certifications, FGBC are standards developed with Florida-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid climate, environment, unique topography, and natural disasters.

FGBC’s five certifications provide pathways to build green homes, developments, local governments, high rises, and commercial buildings. The free market aspect of FGBC certifiers also keeps costs reasonable.
