Construction is underway on the new Port Charlotte Beach Park Recreation Center and Pool, marking a major milestone for Charlotte County’s waterfront community.
County commissioners joined residents and project partners for a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of work on the 20,751-sq. ft. recreation center and adjacent pool complex, both designed with resiliency and community connection in mind.
The elevated recreation center will include flexible event and meeting spaces, a full-service catering kitchen, staff offices, and a waterfront deck overlooking Charlotte Harbor. County officials said the design will allow the facility to better withstand future weather events while providing a versatile venue for public use.
The new community pool will support lap swimming, aquatic therapy, and special events. A modern pool house will feature showers, lockers, and offices, complementing the recreation center as a year-round gathering space for residents.
The $32.7 million project is being built by A² Group, Inc., a Florida-based general contractor experienced in public infrastructure and community projects. Funding comes from Charlotte County’s 1% local option sales tax, approved by voters in 2020. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2026.
“These new facilities represent a major investment in recreation, resiliency, and the quality of life for Charlotte County residents,” county officials said. Additional park improvements, including beach dredging and replenishment, will continue alongside the new center and pool.
