Brickell Iron has reached a new construction milestone with the completion of a steel plate installation that will help provide stability to remaining levels, says project builder Moss & Associates.

The announcement was made over Twitter, with an attached time lapse video showing building progress on the 1001 South Miami Ave. site.

For the installation, Moss & Associates used a 53 ft. by 10 ft. steel plate that initially weighed approximately 20,000 lbs. After secondary layers were fastened to some parts of the metal structure, its total weight was bumped to 40,000 lbs.

The steel plate was installed on the 17th floor, which is the 64-story tower’s podium. It is expected to house more building stability systems as it replicates the base quality offered by a ground-level podium. Final pouring on the level was completed on Nov. 1.

The 17th floor also marks the end of parking levels; a club level together with the 18th floor. These two levels will feature tenant-centered amenities including a theater, billiard and cigar room, wine cellar, lap pool, children’s playroom and a children’s pool.

With Luis Revuelta of Revuelta Architecture International as project designer and Massimo Iosa Ghini of Iosa Ghini Associati as interior designer, the tower now moves closer to topping off at the pace of one floor a week. It is slated for completion by the first quarter of 2018.

Ugo Colombo of CMC Group serves as developer of the 700-ft. tower with more than 500 housing units.
