B & I Contractors installs bipolar ionization units throughout campus to help create a cleaner and safer indoor environment

Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) has taken proactive measures to help safeguard its students, faculty and staff in buildings throughout the campus. B&I Contractors and Commercial Air Management recently partnered with the university to install 52 bipolar ionization units inside air handlers in 13 different buildings. These energy-efficient needlepoint bipolar ionization units are designed to reduce particulate matter, odors and pathogens such as bacteria, mold and viruses––including COVID-19.

“B&I Contractors and Commercial Air Management quickly responded to our needs and provided a cost-effective way to improve the indoor air quality for our faculty, staff and students,” said Jim Hehl, assistant vice-president of the Physical Plant.

“The installation of bipolar ionization units is an asset to Florida Gulf Coast University’s growing reputation in student wellness,” said FGCU sophomore Elaina Cooke. “During times like these, where we are spending the majority of our time indoors, having quality and purified air is essential.
