West Palm Beach-based Verdex Construction says it has started building the long-delayed Water Tower Commons, a master-planned Related Group residential development in Lantana.
The project consists of 14 buildings with 360 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, plus a clubhouse with yoga studio, spa, and exercise room. Interior space totals 430,000 sq. ft. including the clubhouse, and the site is 16.11 acres. Other amenities include a pool, park, and outdoor barbecue area, the contractor says.
Published reports indicate that the on the former A.G. Holley State Hospital Site, was originally supposed to have been completed by 2017, but that there were delays as the retail market shifted and the developers scaled back that aspect of the development.
“In 2015, the town approved more than 300,000 sq. ft. of shops, offices and restaurants and up to 1,100 residential units,” the Southern Florida Sun Sentinel reported in July, 2017. “But Lantana Development, a partnership that includes Boca Raton-based homebuilder Ken Endelson, told the town in March it was cutting back the commercial space to 209,000 sq. ft.”.
The Sun Sentinel reported that Mike Langolf, a vice-president for the developer who oversees the project, wrote in an email to to Town Manager Deborah Manzo, that the developer has spent more than $4 million on infrastructure, installed new light poles and moved utilities underground.
Verdex says construction on what is Lantana’s largest development is now expected to be completed in the spring of 2020.
“This is our second residential project for the Related Group, one of the nation’s best known residential real estate developers,” Verdex Construction president Rex Kirby said in a statement. “The level of quality they insist upon is a perfect match for what we always deliver, no matter what size the job.”
