Tallahassee’s StarMetro bus system is gearing up for a significant upgrade with the impending construction of the Southside Transit Center (STC). A ceremonial dirt turn.was held to launch the project at the future site of the transportation hub at Orange Avenue and Meridian Street.

Construction of the $20 million Southside Transit Center aligns with the city’s five-year strategic plan and the Southside Action Plan, a blueprint crafted in collaboration with residents. Construction is on track to be completed in 2025.

Underlining its commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering economic development in the Southside region, Tallahassee has already approved more than $471 million between Fiscal Year 2017 and FY22. Securing an unprecedented $36 million in competitive grant funding further underscores the City’s dedication to transitioning StarMetro to an all-electric fleet and realizing the STC vision.The STC, will be a multi-bay, two-story facility with eight covered bays equipped with electric charging stations, is set to redefine public transit in Tallahassee.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, it marks the first public transit center built in the city since the establishment of C.K. Steele Plaza in the 1980s.
