Southeast Isles Seawall replacement project underway this week

Florida Construction News staff writer

Construction started Monday on the Southeast Isles Seawall replacements and stormwater improvements project, the City of Fort Lauderdale says.

In August 2022, the City Commission approved a $3 million agreement with Poseidon Dredge & Marine, Inc. for the project that includes replacing about 790 linear feet of existing seawalls along SE 10 Street and along East Las Olas Boulevard.

The new seawalls will be constructed using corrosion-resistant steel sheet-piles with a concrete cap and will be elevated in accordance with the City’s seawall ordinance. Nearby stormwater infrastructure will be improved to ensure proper drainage of surface water runoff. For details, visit ftlcity.info/3pmxTNB.

Construction will continue until the fall. Once the new seawall is completed on SE 10 Street, crews will begin working along Las Olas Boulevard where completion is expected in summer 2024. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank our neighbors for their continued patience as we work to replace these city-owned seawalls as quickly as possible.

The City of Fort Lauderdale is working with the contractor to replace 360 feet of seawall along the southeastern portion of SE 10 Street in Rio Vista. This project includes:

  • constructing a new seawall with a cap elevation of 5 feet NAVD
  • installing five new stormwater structures and new pipes
  • installing two tidal valves
  • restoring pavement and landscaping

Improvements will help reduce tidal flooding along SE 10 Street and make us better prepared for future king tide events and sea level rise.
