The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has broken ground on a new animal shelter, three years after a fire destroyed its original adoption center. The new facility, located along South John Young Parkway, will include indoor and outdoor spaces designed to enhance care for cats and dogs.
H.J. High Construction is the contractor on the project that was designed by Borrelli + Partners, Inc.
“We are thrilled to be part of a project that will make such a positive impact on our furry friends and the families who welcome them,” H.J. High Construction officials said on social media. :Stay tuned for updates as this amazing facility comes to life!”
The 25,000-square-foot space will:
-
Double the medical space to care for ill or injured animals – including the largest shelter medical unit in Florida
-
Disease specific quarantine space for dogs and cats to reduce the potential for disease transmission.
-
Modern shelter space with air conditioning for dogs and cats
-
Flexible space for Pet Alliance to grow in the future
Upgrades will create innovate spaces for animals, including separate indoor and outdoor areas for cats and an interior play yard for dogs.
Also, an expanded veterinary area will nearly double Pet Alliance’s capacity to provide medical care.
The groundbreaking is a milestone after a fire in 2021 forced the organization to temporarily relocate.
The shelter is expected to open in 2025.
