The “New Southern Home” at this year’s Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) will be certified Florida Green by Florida Green Building Council (FGBC), organizers say.

Celebrating its 41st year, SEBC will be in Kissimmee, Aug. 1-2. SEBC will host the official Open House and unveiling in Winter Park.

The home will be built by central Florida custom home builder Steven Robertson Construction. With more than 19,100 certifications since 2000, FGBC is by far the largest certifier of green homes and projects in the state. FGBC provides guidance to builders and developers beyond certification.

“SEBC is excited to bring back the New Southern Home, SEBC’s official showcase home,” conference director Kimberly Scott said in a statement. “SEBC continues to grow and be the must attend event for decision makers in the residential construction industry and suppliers for builders and developer.”

Robertson has been a state certified contractor for 17 years, beginning his career as the project manager for his family’s construction business.

“We are committed to creating a truly spectacular home that not only showcases design but also optimizes energy efficiency,” said Robertson. “The home will showcase the right balance of inventive design and products set in an historic neighborhood location.”

Robertson is a past president of the Greater Orlando Builder Association and has served on the board of directors for the Florida Home Builders Association.

“We are excited to see the New Southern Home take shape and become a beacon for sustainability and green building in the state,” said FGBC executive director C.J. Davila.

Unlike other national and international certifications, FGBC are only standards developed with Florida-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid climate, environment, unique topography, geology and natural disasters.

The New Southern Home will display technology integration for energy efficiency, security, and entertainment for the luxury home experience, all in a Modern Caribbean design.

Attendees will be able to walk through an outdoor oasis with bocce court, summer kitchen and fire feature. The three bedroom/four-bathroom home features a light-filled, open floor plan with careful attention to detail to create the coveted home environment.

FGBC member 15 LightYears will certify the new home “Florida Green.” The firm has certified more than 1,400 green homes and six high-rise buildings with FGBC.
