Mindy Szarowicz has become the first female president of the Construction Association of South Florida (CASF) in the association’s 67-year history.

She has served on the CASF board for seven years and will serve a one-year term.

“I’m very humbled and honored to be the first female president, but I don’t want it to overshadow what we’re trying to accomplish,” Szarowicz said in a statement.  She is director of development for Baker Concrete Construction.

The Fort Lauderdale-based trade group, founded in 1950, offers professional development, education, industry relations and other services to more than 500 members in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Szarowicz, 32, said she also will emphasize networking and mentoring, based on her own experience.

She was the first woman elected to CASF’s 16-member board, which appointed her to an executive committee that fills leadership posts in the organization.

Two other women — Maribeth Sitowski, of Balfour Beatty Construction, and Jessica Chen, of Suffolk Construction — also will serve on the board.

The CASF board members, elected to serve two-year terms, include:

  • Richard Schuerger, project executive, John Moriarty and Associates of Florida
    (Sitting board member, re-elected)
  • Maribeth Sitowski, business development specialist, Balfour Beatty Construction
  • Mark Butters, vice-president, Butters Construction & Development
  • Jessica Chen, oroject executive, Suffolk Construction
  • Alex Smith, vice-president, Moss and Associates

The CASF executive committee for 2017-2018 is: First vice-president Jeff Slade, of Miller Construction Company; second vice-president Sid Miller, of Miller Glass & Glazing; and secretary/treasurer Doug Wallace, of Stiles Construction Company.

CASF board members serve two-year terms; the president serves a one-year term only.
