Officials will gather in Miami-Dade County this afternoon (Feb. 1) to break ground on the Central District Wastewater Treatment Plant (CDWWTP) facility upgrade project.
Planned upgrades are part of the $1.2 billion Ocean Outfall Program at the Central District Wastewater Treatment Plant and include critical process improvements, infrastructure, and system hardening that are being developed to meet the State of Florida’s Ocean Outfall Legislation (OOL) and are included in the $8.6 billion capital improvement program.
A ceremony is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. at the treatment plant, 3989 Rickenbacker Causeway Miami, Florida 33149.
The Ocean Outfall Legislation will be undertaking a total of seven construction projects with a total investment cost of $910 million at CDWWTP.
Projects will address the requirements for reducing the usage of the ocean outfalls and reducing nutrient discharge by providing effluent disposal via municipal injection wells.
