LandSouth Construction, a Jacksonville general contractor specializing in senior housing development, has started construction on Starling at Nocatee Independent Living, a new senior living community in Ponte Vedra with 140 homes.

In a statement released Nov. 13, LandSouth president James Pyle expressed his firm’s enthusiasm to work with Starling Group that he described as a developer of retirement communities that incorporate “the best programs and amenities.”

Starling, which has over $650 million in real estate projects on Florida’s West Coast, is the developer and vertically integrated owner of the development. Upon project completion in February 2019, the company will also take over the community’s operation.

The senior living project covers an area of over 174,000 sq ft. It will offer unique apartment homes that range from one to two-bedroom units. Each of them will feature high-end finishes that include stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, decorative cabinets and tiled showers.

Pyle also said, “Residents will be able to enjoy tranquil surroundings, picturesque landscapes, and resort-style services.”

To attract a market of active seniors aged 55 and above, the community designed by Kansas-based Rosemann & Associates will have restaurant-type indoor and outdoor dining spaces at different venues, wellness suite with spa, salon, fitness studio, art studio, internet cafe, theater, and a billiard and card room.

Residents will also have access to healthcare without needing to leave the retirement community. Aside from having a dedicated space for visiting physicians, Starling at Nocatee will have its own team of on-site medical doctors. Aegis Therapies will also be providing therapy and rehab services.
