The latest snapshot of construction employment from a national trade organization shows the North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota with 17,500 jobs, an 8% increase from the same time in 2013, Herald Tribune reports.
That gave the market a 12-month gain of 1,300 jobs from May 2013. The Charlotte County market, meanwhile, registered 2,900 jobs, an increase of about 200, or 7%, from the same time a year ago, according to the Associated General Contractors of America trade group.
The home construction market has been steadily improving in Southwest Florida since that time, with a new wave of baby boomers feeling the confidence to again make purchases in the state. With thin supplies of existing homes for sale, builders have been racing to provide enough product to satisfy these buyers.
