The number of requests for Hurricane Recovery Assistance has been so high that applications were temporarily suspended this week.
“As anticipated, the volume of requests for the Hurricane Recovery Fund has been exceptionally high — with more than 3,000 applications already received,” according to a Thursday update on the governor’s website. “We are working through these applications as quickly as possible, and we have closed the application while we process the applications we already have to ensure available dollars do not outpace requests.
“We assure you that we’re committed to supporting as many people as possible through this fund. We appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The fund was created to help those in need with food and essential supplies, providing one-time assistance of approximately $300 in Walmart e-gift cards to approved applicants.
Applicants must:
- Be over the age of 18
- Be a resident of Orange, Seminole, or Osceola county
- Have been negatively impacted by Hurricane Ian (impacts include loss of income due to work closures, loss of food, or damage to property)
- Have a valid email address
- Be able to access and use an e-gift card
Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received, and gift cards are limited based on funding availability. Funding is not guaranteed and applicants may be placed on a waiting list until we are able to process your application.
