Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is introducing a new construction management program to help the industry meet skyrocketing demand for skilled managers.
“The industry came to us and said we need more construction managers in this region,” College of Engineering Dean Richard Behr told WINK-TV.
Both Lee and Collier County fall in the top ten in the nation for highest employment level of construction managers, the broadcaster reported.
“I just wish it could’ve happened faster because the need it still growing with all the construction that’s going on in this region, they need talent to do these jobs properly,” Behr said.
“The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM) emphasizes public and private, commercial and residential construction with a focus on sustainable construction methods,” the university says on its website. “This program employs a team-based interdisciplinary learning philosophy. This approach provides students with knowledge for leadership in sustaining our world and with the critical thinking skills required for effective and innovative practice with particular emphasis on technologies needed to solve problems and deliver successful construction projects.”
