Baptist Health plans to break ground this May on a $187 million critical care tower for the Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville.

Construction will continue through 2021.

FreemanWhite, part of the The Haskell Co., will design the structure, to be built by a partnership of DPR Construction and Jacksonville-based Perry-McCall Construction.

The 220,000 sq. ft. project includes a new seven-story building on the site of the old parking garage. Two floors will serve as the new front entrance for both Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

The remaining five floors of the new building will be the Wolfson Children’s Critical Care Tower, including a 75-bed neo-natal intensive care unit and 26-bed pediatric intensive care unit.

The hospital has the funding, land, and approvals in place to move forward with the project, president Michael Mayo said. The hospital says it is finalizing a few design elements right now.
