Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Florida East Coast has announced the 2018 FIU Student Chapter Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the event will help the ABC Florida International University Student Chapter fund its trip to this year’s National Construction Management Competition (CMC).
The tournament will be held at the newly opened golf-centric entertainment complex, Topgolf in Miami Gardens on Feb. 16. Tee off is set for 1 p.m.
“We will certainly do anything we can do to help further the education and shape the future of the construction industry,” said Peter Dyga, president and CEO of ABC Florida East Coast Chapter. “They all have promising futures and seeing these students win big at the competition is an added bonus.”
The CMC is designed to challenge the construction knowledge, time management, organizational and presentation skills and recognize the most accomplished ABC student chapters in the country. Project management, estimating, safety, and quality-control skills will be evaluated.
Teams are provided with a project proposal, which will result in a fully developed project to present to a panel of judges consisting of industry professionals. During the competition, teams are faced with last-minute changes that test the ability to react and perform under pressure.
The FIU Student Chapter has had success in previous years at the CMC. In 2016, the chapter took home second place overall, winning first place in Estimating and Safety, and third place in Project Management.
This year’s competition will be held in March.
