Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet on Tuesday unanimously approved the transfer of a 2.63-acre parcel in downtown Miami to serve as the site of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library.

The property, currently used as an employee parking lot for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, is adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower. It will become the first presidential library in Florida.

“Having the Trump Presidential Library in Miami will be good for Florida, for the city, and for Miami Dade College,” DeSantis said in a statement. “No state has supported the president’s agenda more than the Free State of Florida, and I was proud to spearhead the successful effort to house this historic presidential library right here in his home state.”

Attorney General James Uthmeier, Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson also supported the land conveyance, each citing Trump’s legacy and Florida’s role as his home state.

“It was an honor to vote in favor of making Florida the future home of President Trump’s Presidential Library,” Uthmeier said.

The decision was approved during a Sept. 30 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, the body responsible for managing and disposing of state lands. The board, created in 1855, is composed of the governor, attorney general, chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner.

The Trump library is expected to bring tourism and economic development to South Florida, while providing what officials described as a venue to honor Trump’s “historic accomplishments” as the nation’s 45th and 47th president.
