Zoo Miami has secured a $100,000 appropriation from the state to build a new world-class, CBSMiami reports.

Built in 1986, Zoo Miami’s hospital contains surgical and exam rooms, radiology, a research laboratory, indoor and outdoor recovery rooms, and offices.

The construction of the new animal hospital will be completed in three phases. Phase I includes the addition of the 4,600 sq. ft. treatment wing and Interior improvements of the existing building. Phase II calls for the construction of the animal holding area, while Phase III includes the renovation and expansion of laboratory and offices.

The zoo did not disclose a construction timeline.
