Construction is under-way on a high rise tower adjacent to the Straz shopping center and John F. Germany Library in Tampa. As part of the project, a pedestrian bridge has been replaced with a make-shift surface walkway, but the Tampa Bay Times reports that few patrons have complained about the project.

Developers at the Intown/Framework Group have been working on plans for the 36-story residential tower since the early part of last decade. After plans were reworked, construction has started.

Janet Marnatti, library project manager with the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, told the newspaper that the public impact has been minimized.

“Access to the library and its hours of operation have not changed,” Marnatti said.

Construction is temporary but will eventually lead to an improved walkway for Straz patrons, said the Straz’s chief operating officer Lorrin Shepard. “We’re working hand-in-hand with the developer and the City of Tampa,” he said. “We’re meeting almost every week.”
