Skanska USA announced that it signed a $47M contract to renovate and expand the Broward Health North Campus in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The Broward Health multi-phased hospital project will include the addition of a 35,000-square-foot Emergency Department with three trauma bays, six operating rooms and more than 50 new examination rooms.

Also, the project will include a new 23,000 SF central energy plant that will increase efficiency and reliability with new generators and air conditioners. The re-cladding of the existing bed tower will replace more than 150,000 SF of exterior cladding to modernize the look of the hospital’s façade, improve water intrusion issues, provide a pathway for new mechanical and electrical systems and protect the building in the event of a catastrophic event.

Construction is slated to begin in August 2014. The central energy plant and exterior improvements are slated to be completed by summer 2016.

The operating suites should be ready in winter 2015, and the expanded emergency department in spring 2016.
