SchenkelShultz announced that the firm-designed two projects received LEED certifications.

In a statement, SchenkelShultz said that Signature Flight Support Executive Terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport and Volusia County Emergency Operations and Sheriff’s Communications Center were recipient of LEED Gold and LEED Silver Certification, respectively.

The Volusia County facility met the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design standards of the U.S. Green Building Council, as well as received a Certified 3 Green Globes Rating from the Green Building Initiative.

The new 11,500-square-foot executive terminal incorporates sustainable architectural design features, environmentally-friendly building products, energy-efficient systems, and environmentally sensitive construction practices.

The newly-opened $11 million facility serves as a gateway to the New York/New Jersey area, and provides passenger/customer support services with a large lobby, customer service desk, seating areas, coffee bar, conference room, phone/internet rooms, restrooms and vending areas.

The newly opened state-of-the-art Volusia County Emergency Operations and Sheriff’s Communications Center is a sustainable 45,000-square-foot facility located in Daytona Beach. It features a secure emergency operations command center, countywide 9-1-1 dispatch call center, classrooms and training rooms, media room, offices, cafeteria, and male and female sleeping quarters.

SchenkelShultz said that it utilized advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to integrate essential building systems, and designed the facility to withstand hurricane force winds of 180 miles per hour.
