Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida broke ground on a new $33 million structure at the Jackson Memorial Hospital campus on Sept. 9, marking a milestone in the organization’s effort to provide lodging and support for families with critically ill children.
The seven-story building will expand the charity’s capacity from 31 to 54 bedrooms, nearly doubling accommodations and allowing the house to serve more than 420 families annually. Located just steps from Holtz Children’s Hospital, the new facility is designed to keep families close to their children during hospital stays.
Camcon Group, a South Florida-based construction firm, is leading the building of the facility, with project support from Paragon Development and Justin Architects. Site preparation began earlier this year, with completion expected within two years.
Jackson Health System officials highlighted the importance of the project on LinkedIn, noting that having lodging nearby allows families to “stay close and focus on what matters most, their child’s healing and recovery.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities said more than 80% of the fundraising goal has already been achieved, with the project made possible through the support of board members, staff, volunteers and community partners.
“This is more than a house; we are building a home for hope,” the charity said in a statement.
The new facility is expected to significantly increase the organization’s capacity to provide comfort and care for families during challenging medical experiences.
