PGT Industries, a supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors, said Jan. 9 that it broke ground on a new glass operations plant in Venice, Florida.
The company is spending $15 million on the new 96,000 sq. ft. facility that will allow it to expand its current glass cutting, tempering and laminating processes and more effectively control the quality of glass being used in its products, according to a news release.
PGT said that the facility will be used for glass processing, but the additional space may house manufacturing and other operations determined by future market demand.
The company has selected two local Sarasota companies for the development and construction of the new plant. Hall Architects and Willis A. Smith Construction Inc. are serving as architect and general contractor.
Construction is expected to be complete in late 2014.
