Brasfield & Gorrie has placed the final beam atop Mount Sinai Medical Center’s new Westchester Freestanding Emergency Department, marking a key milestone in expanding around-the-clock medical care for residents in western Miami-Dade County.
The four-story, 112,000-square-foot facility, designed by HuntonBrady Architects, will include 26 exam bays, a Baker Act receiving unit and advanced imaging services such as MRI, CT and ultrasound. Plans also call for a separate two-story central energy plant and medical gas building, demolition of two existing structures and six acres of site improvements. Construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2026.
“This milestone is a tribute to the skill and dedication of every crew member who’s helped bring this facility to life,” said Mike Peters, vice president and division manager at Brasfield & Gorrie. “Our crews take great pride in knowing their work will help make emergency and specialty care more accessible for families across Miami-Dade County.”
Mount Sinai said the project will bring its emergency and specialty services closer to thousands of families who currently must travel farther for care. The health system is also working with Brasfield & Gorrie on the Braman Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art facility under construction on Miami Beach.
“This milestone reflects Mount Sinai’s investment in bringing world-class care closer to the communities we serve,” said Gino R. Santorio, the system’s president and CEO. “We’re grateful to our partners at Brasfield & Gorrie and HuntonBrady Architects for helping us expand access to emergency and specialty care for families across western Miami-Dade.”
