Magic City Innovation District (MCID), a multi-phase project costing $1 billion, has announced its partnership with a company owned by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte.

Laliberte’s Lune Rouge will join other investors, Dragon Global, Plaza Equity Partners and Metro 1, in curating and creatively directing the “new technology, arts and entertainment district” in Miami’s Little Haiti.

“Magic City is an opportunity for us to put all our creativity towards the service of entertainment and new technologies. This collaboration will allow us to explore new forms of entertainment and make available multimedia and interactive installations adapted to future Magic City residents and visitors,” said Laliberte.

Plans for MCID call for the development of a walkable live-work-play neighborhood at Northeast 60th and 64th streets east of Northeast Second Ave. The first phase will include the activation of the former Trailer Park, which requires a Temporary Use Permit.

In addition, the project team also established the MCID Foundation which will “support the economic, social, and cultural prosperity of Little Haiti and the diverse population of people who live and work there.” The team looks forward to working with the local community throughout the planning phase.

Plans for the 15-acre development were unveiled in November 2016 and originally a collaboration between Dragon Global and Metro 1. At that time, the project was self-funded but the two developers have said that they will eventually look for long-term debt and equity partners.

No specific date for completion was given but developers previously announced that construction would occur over several years.
