The construction company who was building the Florida International University (FIU) bridge that collapsed in 2018 has won a contract extension for projects at Miami International Airport.

Miami-Dade County commissioners this week unanimously approved the extension into 2020 for Magnum Construction Management (MCM).

The vote extends the contractor’s 2011 agreement to run small construction projects at the airport, The Miami Herals reports.

MCM filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and is in the process of settling claims related to the March, 2018 bridge collapse.

“There are really small projects at the airport,” aviation director Lester Sola was quoted as saying in The Herald. “You have to look at the entire performance of the contractor at the airport. They have been performing exceptionally well. … We had no hesitation recommending they continue.”
