Marion County Public Schools has awarded a $62 million contract to Skanska to construct a replacement for Lake Weir Middle School. The new three-story campus will be built on a 30-acre site at 685 Oak Rd. in Ocala.

The 156,000-square-foot facility is designed to serve over 1,400 students, providing 43 classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium for assemblies and performances. Outdoor facilities will include a track and field, as well as fields for baseball, softball, and soccer. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025.

The project is intended to provide additional capacity to accommodate growth in Marion County’s student population and to offer modern facilities to support academic and extracurricular programs. PBK is serving as the architect for the project, and Skanska is the construction manager.

Skanska is currently leading approximately $400 million in educational construction projects across Florida, including sites in Osceola, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Marion, and Lee counties.
