LandSouth Construction, a Jacksonville-based general contractor, said it has broken ground on an apartment community in Port St. Lucie.

The project, dubbed Gatlin Commons, includes a six building, three-story development that sits on 15 landscaped acres.

James S. Carr AIA & Associates is the architect of the project. The gated community will feature 200 apartment homes.

Amenities include a 5,800-square-foot clubhouse with fitness center, community pool area, a dog park, tot lot, and a basketball court. There will be parking with garage and surface spaces available as well as a trash compactor and a mail kiosk.

Construction is expected to be completed in October 2019.
