JE Dunn Construction, one of the largest general building contractors in the United States, has announced it is opening of a new office in Tampa as the most recent expansion of the company’s presence in the Southeast.

JE Dunn vice-president Jake Nellis, a Tampa native and 2001 University of Florida graduate, is leading the company’s effort to service clients in the Central Florida market and throughout the state.

Nellis will lead an initial office contingent of approximately 20 associates, including many Florida natives.

“The Florida market has tremendous opportunities in the healthcare sector as well as in science and technology, and higher education,” said JE Dunn executive vice-president Mike Bartlett. “Under Jake’s leadership, JE Dunn is well positioned to foster our relationships in the local marketplace and grow our impact in the region.”

Said Nellis: “This is a much anticipated homecoming for me and others on our staff who are Florida natives. Tampa remains the close-knit community that I remember. Everywhere I go, I run into someone I know. It’s as if I never left.”

Nellis also acknowledges the area’s “tremendous growth and investment in infrastructure, aviation, healthcare, and of course multi-family. My charge is to match our talent with opportunities in these areas.”

Nellis re-relocated to Tampa from the company’s Atlanta office and East Region headquarters. There, he served as Atlanta commercial group manager – vice-president.

The East Region also includes offices in Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, and Savannah.

JE Dunn is not new to the Florida market, having completed over $1.2 billion in a wide variety of construction contracts in the state since the company’s first Florida project in 1989—Charter Hospital of West Palm Beach, a substance abuse and behavioral clinic.

Other projects completed over the years include: HCA work at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Ed White Hospital, Memorial Hospital of Tampa, Gulf Coast Medical Center, Osceola Regional Medical Center, Ocala Regional Medical Center and Fawcett Medical Center. Healthcare clients also include The Baptist Health Systems of South Florida. Among other project types: The Hammock Beach Resort; The Kessler Collection hotels – Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Grand Bohemian Hotel in Orlando and The Celebration Hotel in Celebration; and MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Tampa.

Current projects include a major renovation of Brandon Regional Medical Center near Tampa and the patient tower project at Morton Plant Hospital, part of BayCare Health System.
