BG Group LLC successfully demolished the historic Deauville Beach Resort in Miami Beach on Sunday.

The hotel was built in 1957 and President Kennedy spoke there to the Young Democrats Convention in 1961.

Also, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and Sammy Davis Jr. performed there over the years, but the property fell into disrepair and was closed in 2017 after an electrical fire. The building was declared unsafe and ordered to be knocked down earlier this year BG Group worked with Maryland-based Controlled Demolitions Inc. – the two firms that completed the implosion at Champlain Towers South in Surfside after the deadly building collapse in June 2021.

Contractors first removed asbestos from the hotel and demolished the building’s pool, deck, ballrooms and lobby in September.

Now, the future of the site is not clear.

While Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, a New York developer, wanted to buy the property and build a 350-foot hotel and condo tower, the site has a 200-foot height limit and a voters rejected a city ballot measure that would have allowed construction.
