Groundbreaking launches I-75 Interchange construction project in Sarasota

Florida Construction News staff writer

A groundbreaking was held this week for the I-75 interchange construction project at Fruitville Road in Sarasota, which will transform the existing cloverleaf configuration into a diverging diamond design.

The innovative design is expected to enhance safety, logistics, and mobility in the area, further supporting the state’s infrastructure initiatives.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has prioritized funding to strengthen supply chain links and increase aggregate material storage, ensuring that vital resources are available for critical infrastructure projects across the state.

With these strategic investments, Florida aims to position itself for continued economic growth and resilience, reinforcing its commitment to building a robust infrastructure network for years to come.

Work will include reconstruction of the interchange at Fruitville Road in Sarasota County from the existing partial cloverleaf configuration to a diverging diamond interchange. The project will widen about two miles of I-75, from Palmer Boulevard to north of Fruitville Road through reconstruction of the existing six-lane highway and the addition of auxiliary lanes and will replace the existing bridges over Fruitville Road.

Construction will also include widening of about 1.6 miles of Fruitville Road from Honore Avenue to east of Coburn Road. For additional project details, please visit https://www.swflroads.com/project/420613-2.
