The City of Fort Lauderdale is working with Weekley Asphalt Paving to complete streetscape improvements along A1A from the Fort Lauderdale Beach Parking Lot entrance to Sunrise Boulevard. Work will enhance pedestrian lighting and safety and create a signature hardscape pattern at the intersection of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. The project also includes:

  • Relocating existing palms to the curb to extend sidewalk area on both sides of A1A
  • Upgrading hardscape elements including colored, decorative concrete
  • Installing site furnishing elements including accent seating and bollards
  • Installing LED pedestrian lights along the west side of A1A that will provide amber-colored lighting during turtle nesting season and white lighting during the remainder of the year

Construction started in April and is expected to be completed next month. Work is now about 85 percent completed including the following activities:

  • Sub-contractor UEG completed the installation of light poles, pull boxes, and light fixtures and is currently running wires and working on the inter-connection to the load centers.
  • Sub-contractor Arazoza completed the installation of palms along the east sidewalk between the Las Olas Boulevard beach entrance and Poinsettia Street.
  • Sub-contractor Arazoza completed the installation of irrigation lines along the north run from the Beach Entrance at Las Olas Boulevard towards Poinsettia Street.
  • Weekley started installation of bollards along the east sidewalk from the beach entrance at Las Olas Boulevard north toward Poinsettia Street.
