Florida construction industry braces for Irma

0

Construction sites are shutting down and cranes and equipment are being secured and braced as Florida communities prepare for Hurricane Irma.

Construction equipment, barriers and signs are starting to disappear from many highway projects and city streets, The Sun-Sentinel reports.  “The plastic barrels and metal barricades designed to keep people from driving off unfinished ramps and roads will be removed so the safety devices don’t become projectiles in high winds.”

The Safety Alliance for Excellence (SAFE) has suspended its regular meetings and program, and published a hurricane resources webpage.

After the storm hits, there will be emergency assessments, and then the rebuilding will begin. It is likely contractors will be busy to a level they’ve never seen before.
