Demolition of the former Fort Lauderdale Police Department headquarters started Jan. 14, marking the next step in the completion of a new police facility.

The new headquarters at 1300 W. Broward Boulevard is designed to support police operations, training, and community engagement. The facility will accommodate more than 700 sworn and non-sworn personnel, providing modern technology and workspaces built to meet current safety, operational, and infrastructure standards.

The former building, constructed in the 1950s, no longer met the city’s operational needs. Before demolition, asbestos abatement was completed in accordance with environmental regulations. Demolition activities will follow all safety and environmental requirements, and residents may notice work at the site as the project progresses.

Moss & Associates, a Fort Lauderdale–based construction management and general contractor and construction of the new headquarters is in its final stages, with interior work, systems installation, and site improvements nearing completion. Police operations are moving into the facility in phases to ensure continuity of services.

The project, funded by a 2019 voter-approved bond, underwent independent engineering reviews and corrective work to address structural design issues identified during construction. Third-party engineers confirmed that all corrective measures have been implemented.

Demolition of the old headquarters is part of the overall campus project, allowing completion of remaining site work around the new facility.
