Culpepper Construction Co. has been recommended as the construction manager for the new $15 million STEAM classroom building and auditorium at the Florida State University Schools (FSUS) in Tallahassee.
The construction project is scheduled to start this spring.
“We had the space and the plans; we lacked only the resources to begin construction,” FSUS executive director Stacy Chambers was quoted in 2017 as saying in Florida State University News. “Adding the planned STEAM building will give FSUS the opportunity to continue our charter mission and better serve Tallahassee, the State of Florida and beyond.”
The STEAM facility will be equipped with flexible learning spaces, fully integrated technology, small group learning rooms, mobile walls and storage as well as a 750-seat auditorium.
The new auditorium will be the school’s new home for student performances, celebrations, award ceremonies, community meetings and innovative professional development and conferences.
The selection committee reported that Culpepper ranked ahead of the other two shortlisted contractors, Allstate Construction and Childers Construction Co. All three contractors are based in Tallahassee.
