CEMEX participates in reconstruction of Central Florida’s main highway

CEMEX USA says it is providing tailor-made solutions and building materials that will help to completely reconstruct the interstate in the 21-mile I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project, upgrading interchanges and bridges.

CEMEX says it is expected to supply more than 4,900 truckloads of reinforced concrete pipe and more than 375,000 of the 620,000 cubic yards of concrete required for the project, which is being built by SGL Constructors, a joint venture of Skanska, Granite and Lane.

The $2.3-billion project is being developed through a public-private partnership contract between the Florida Department of Transportation and I-4 Mobility Partners, which is tasked with designing, constructing, financing, operating and maintaining the interstate for 40 years.

“We are very proud to be a part of the I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project, which will improve the lives of countless commuters and visitors in Florida,” CEMEX USA president Ignacio Madridejos said in a statement. “This project reaffirms CEMEX’s commitment to help build a better future for the communities in which we operate.”

“This project will bring the interstate, which was built in the 1960s, to meet current industry standards and better accommodate the number of vehicles traveling on the interstate today. Both the driver and passengers will benefit greatly. The driver will realize greater reliability, reduced travel times, better traffic flow and improved visibility, while passengers especially will enjoy an enhanced aesthetic experience,” said SGL project director Brook Brookshire. “Our goal is to create a signature corridor that connects communities, improves economies and enhances livability throughout the region.”

“We’re proud to be a part of this community. It is truly an honor to be able to help build a better future for Central Florida,”  CEMEX Florida regional president Gonzalo Galindo said.
