Contractors and property owners in Broward County will now have access to private providers for remote virtual inspections, following a recent decision by the county’s Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
On Aug. 14, the board voted to amend Chapter 1, Section 110.3.13 of the Florida Building Code, repealing restrictions on remote inspections and opening the door for broader use of the technology. The change brings Broward in line with other Florida counties that already allow private providers to conduct permit-related inspections virtually.
Inspected, a Broward-based company that offers plan review and remote inspection services, worked with the board to secure the change. Company president and chief operating officer Ian Cohen said the decision will reduce delays and help streamline projects.
“As a Broward County-based company, we’re proud to work with BORA to bring the full benefits of remote virtual inspections to our local community,” Cohen said in a statement. “This decision will revolutionize the construction industry and attract new business by increasing efficiency and reducing costs while maintaining rigorous safety standards.”
Company founder Anthony Perera first pushed for the amendment during a May 8 meeting of the board. The proposal was refined over the summer, leading to last month’s unanimous approval.
Inspected said it is fully operational in Broward and prepared to begin conducting inspections as early as next week. The company has carried out more than 100,000 inspections across Florida since January 2024, using its Permit Hub platform, which features high-definition video, geo-tagging and access to approved plans.
Several contractors praised the board’s move, saying it will reduce delays for homeowners and give crews more flexibility.
“Thanks to Inspected’s platform, we’re now able to install, inspect and complete final trim on window projects—all in a single day,” said Steve Gorecki, South Florida operations manager for Renewal by Andersen. “What used to take three separate appointments and days of coordination is now streamlined into one seamless process.”
