Brevard County approves incentive for Project Magellan airport project

Brevard County commissioners approved financial incentives to an unidentified company planning a major project at Melbourne International Airport, reports FloridaToday.

Project Magellan is expected to bring 1,800 jobs paying an average of $100,000 apiece. County and local economic-development officials haven’t identified the company, citing confidentiality agreements.

The commission voted unanimously to approve a grant of up to $205,000 for Project Magellan to cover county and city impact fees. According to county documents, the “major aerospace company” involved is considering locating “aircraft development work” at the airport in two phases.

The first phase calls for the construction of a 216,000-sq. ft. building and creation of 300 jobs by the end of 2015. The second phase involves construction of an additional 500,000-square-foot building and an additional 1,500 jobs, “if the company is successful in obtaining the desired business objectives.”
