BidClerk: Construction up 39.8% in Florida major-metro markets

The BidClerk Construction Index (BCI) reported, for major-metro regions in Florida, that there was a 39.8% increase in construction projects that were actively bidding.

Private construction activity increased 5.4% and public construction increased as well, rising 66.7%.

The total value of all the Florida major-metro projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the second quarter of 2013 was $4,178,988,643.

In a quarter-over-quarter analysis for all construction projects that were actively bidding, the second quarter 2013 BCI report showed that the major-metro regions in Florida experienced a modest increase of 3.9%. First quarter public projects increased 8.1%, while private projects declined (-3.6%) compared to the first quarter of 2013.

One of the high-profile projects that BidClerk reported on for the second quarter was the Walmart Supercenter #3197 in Tampa. The project value is $10,632,600. The contract for general contracting was awarded to MLB Construction. The project architect is BRR Architecture. Construction began in June 2013.

In a year-over-year analysis for the Miami region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 30.5% compared to one year ago. A BCI quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in Miami increased 4.8% compared to data reported in the first quarter of 2013.

In a year-over-year analysis for the Orlando region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 46.6 per cent compared to one year ago. BCI quarter-over-quarter analysis for the second quarter 2013 showed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Orlando region increased 21.7%.

In a year-over-year analysis for the Tampa-St. Pete region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 40.3% compared to one year ago. BCI’s quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Tampa-St. Pete region experienced an increase of just 1 per cent.
