Broward Health has broken ground on a new six-storey medical office building at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, a project aimed at expanding access to specialty care and outpatient services in northern Broward County.
The facility, located at 201 East Sample Road, will add 127,033 square feet of clinical space and is scheduled to open in 2027. It represents one of the health system’s first major new construction projects in nearly three decades.
The groundbreaking ceremony drew more than 100 attendees, including elected officials from Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point and Pompano Beach, along with business and community leaders from across the region.
“Yesterday’s groundbreaking marks an important milestone for Broward Health,” said Shane Strum, president and CEO of Broward Health. “This facility reinforces our commitment to meeting the long-term healthcare needs of our community and to serving Broward County residents for generations to come.”
Designed by The Beck Group in collaboration with DMZ Architects, the new building will include 75 exam rooms, with capacity to expand to 123 as demand grows. It will house cardiovascular, neuroscience and orthopedic services, along with additional specialty clinics and affiliated physician practices.
Hospital leaders say co-locating outpatient specialty care with inpatient services at the Broward Health North campus is intended to improve clinical integration and patient convenience.
“This medical office building represents a significant investment in the future of care at Broward Health North,” said Matt Garner, CEO of Broward Health North. “Expanding specialty services on campus makes it easier for patients to access the care they need close to home.”
The design incorporates architectural elements inspired by Deerfield Beach’s signature lighthouse, reflecting the coastal character of the community. Standardized clinic layouts and flexible configurations are intended to support evolving care models and emerging technologies.
David Clark, senior vice president of operations, said the project will also improve efficiency for care teams.
“Establishing a modern medical office building on the Broward Health North campus allows us to streamline operations and better support how our teams work every day,” Clark said.
Remedy Medical Properties is partnering on the development, with DPR Construction serving as general contractor.
The project is part of a broader expansion strategy for Broward Health, which also includes a second planned medical office building and parking garage at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Together, the initiatives aim to expand specialty services, attract medical talent and bring care closer to patients across Broward County.
